Drifting in Forza 4

Post by Reza WRX on Tue Oct 23, 2012 8:47 pm

I have been trying to get into drifting, and was wondering if anyone would like to drift with me/give me some pointers. I am currently using a 98' Supra RWD with my own tune, but I definitely could use some help with my tuning and driving. Send me an invite if you're interested!

Apex is a good drifter too - he was on Forza this evening - jump on early tomorrow before the tourny and there should be some peeps on.

My drifting is quite accidental and is usually the result of aggressive acceleration out of any corner where Interceptor is in front of me. I do appreciate the compliment Coolhand, but I don't believe I'll be much use in setup or drift tips. I will however be on early tonight to support some type of practice/warmup room for Season 2 Race 1.

Yeah, I love to drift and feel I am pretty good at it but for me it is all technique. I don't tune anything any different. We talked a little bit the other day but I would be glad to jump in and see how you are progressing. I can probably offer some tips but it's a little harder than teaching how to drive fast around the track. There is a lot of nuance involved. Feeling the car at the limit and keeping it on the edge without going over.

As mentioned the other day, starting in the B-Class or A-Class is a good place. You need enough power and torque to sustain the slide and keep up speed.

Let me see if I can put it into words.

When approaching the turn... Come in wide from the outside. Turn in sharp, aim for the late apex and hit the e-brake. Once the back end slides out, down shift 1 or 2 gears (depending on the car and torque) and hit the gas hard to get the wheels spinning and start to counter steer. From there you just feather the steering and try to keep the car balanced without going over center and spinning out.

The key is to keep the wheels spinning so you can keep the slid going. As soon as the back wheels get traction it's over. Good practice is to sit and start doing donuts. Then once you get going try to steer out of it and get going straight again without ever letting off the gas. Another good practice tool is to load up the soccer field and try to do a controlled donut around the center circle. Not the little dot that the ball sits on but the larger circle that goes around the center dot. Try to keep your front wheels on the line in a large controlled drift.

Hope that helps. Definitely hit me up again and we can practice some stuff.

I had fun drifting last night. We should do that again. I have not ever actually done a Drift race like that before.

Yeah, that was definitely a lot of fun. Going downhill was by far my favorite drifting experience to date. Hopefully we can get a few other S7 guys to stick around next time too

You need to join us for the standard races too. It's a lot of fun racing in a full room of S7 guys.

Still at work... Maybe later tonight? Might be playing Dishonored, or tuning for F-Class. Hell just hit me up if you see me online.
