No Assists...

Post by S7 Riff Raff on Sat Feb 04, 2012 4:48 pm

I realized the morning after the E Class Tournament that i ran the whole thing with no assists on.... Which explains why i couldn't keep my d@mn car on the road.. . Which also makes sense why i was "Two seconds slower" on Almafi Coast... Which also makes sense why i was accidentally hitting dudes.... Maybe for the D class tournament i should check my settings before i race.... Life and the lessons learned.

I know a few of us don't use assists, with manual transmission. I know from experience that if you race with traction control and stability control on normally, that racing without them can be heartbreaking.

What assists do you you normally use?

Both of those... I tune my breaks so i dont need ABS, and i use simulated steering and manuel transmission.... During the E Class Tourny, i thought someone sabotaged my cars by putting butter on my wheels....

Taking assists off should actually make lap tunes faster. Only thing I use is RCA and I feel it costs me a short bit at the start and some corners but it's too much of a pain without it.

I have all three on. I'm not sure why, I never used them in FM3, so I'll probably do some laps without and see how useful (or not) they are for tournies.

Definitely keeping ABS though. I can't risk a lockup into a corner dangerous for me and any cars around me.

I only use ABS. Every other assist is turned off and I race manual too (without clutch ). Simulation steering as well. Racing no assists is definitely harder but it is faster too. Some people just can't seem to get the hang of it though. I think the biggest advantage you can give yourself is racing with manual. Once you get good at manual I promis it will cut off a few seconds off your lap times.

I think I should start racing with manual. Considering I usually run grippy cars, the higher rpm range would be a nice boost. It's just finding the time time to play and get comfortable with it.

I play F1 2010 with no assists. Now THAT is a difficult driving game. If you see it (or the 2011 version) cheap, it is well worth picking up - especially if you have a wheel.

On the abs note I actually found into be a very easy transition to turn it off. You just have to change you trigger pressure for each turn but it feels way better and made my laps faster.

I've had it off but it doesn't seem to give me any extra time. So, I prefer to keep it on as it allows me a bit more safety when I'm going for an overtake under braking or really pushing the car into corners.

If you put your break pressure to just before your breaks lock up, you will have enough stopping power, no skid and an exta % for difficulty... its usually around 70% brake pressure ... works for me... might be something yall wanna try out while building cars..

I've tried lower pressures. I run with 116% and ABS. Works better for me.

I run 98%. Anything much less would be taking performance from the car and if I were to do that, it would be easier to just flick abs on.

Exactly. If you're not lowering your ultimate stopping distance, then you're missing out.

Besides, as long as you have a decent feel for your car, you can just use the triggers to micro-manage braking. In the tune, you're essentially setting your maximum % range, so, I feel it is best to increase the range, rather than narrow it down - ABS or not.

I'm also in the no assists club. Sim steering, manual with clutch. I've not played with the brake pressure percentage, I just feather the break pedal through a few corners to get a feel for each car. The steering wheel input helps me "feel" when the slip angle of the front tires has been exceeded under hard breaking. Now, if I could just run faster times than Interceptor without using the brake line, I'd have something to really be proud of.

I wasn't aware that the brake line gave you a speed boost.

Lol let's not go down that route or the tournaments are going to turn ugly in the first corners again haha

Guess it really depends on your driving style. I also drop my pressure down to around 70%, based around the weight of the car and speed. ABS on. Works great for me because I like smooth breaking into corners without locking up my tires. Manual trans as well.

Yeah, I go ABS off, 98% pressure and it works great for me. I very, very rarely lock my tires and that's usually only when I'm not paying attention and brake late in to a turn.
