Skyrim- Ever had a follower die in battle?

Post by S7 mrmiller on Thu Dec 08, 2011 10:19 am

Have you and any of your followers die? Mine never seem to die, but only go down to a knee and get back up once the battle is finished (much like in Gears). The only time I had one die is when I accidentally killed them in a big battle. Iím using one of the Companions, Alyea? the Huneter, and she does have the option to give out side quests, so maybe that is the reason she doesnít die in battle? I'm guessing if they do die, they don't come back do they?

Yeah, I had the first one die on me. But I also killed her on accident in a battle. Once they go down the AI ignores them so they can almost always get back up as long as no one hits them. I did have one die fighting a Giant too (same one) but I reloaded the save. Basically, they are good at surviving as long as nothing goes horribly wrong LOL!

Personally, they just annoy me too much to use. I can't effectively sneak and they always get in the way during a battle. After my first finally died, I never went back and got another. Been solo and happy ever since.

They are pro's at triggering traps too! Depending on what quest I do, I either take mine or leave her in the house. She is good at sneaking and uses a bow like I do, so she is more helpful than not. Plus she can lug a few hundred pounds of loot and gear!

Well I had one die and never come back, I was fighting trolls and she went down and I ran off to recharge and then went back and killed the troll, i don't think the game auto save while I ran off, but I did get out of the "danger screen" so maybe it saved IDK, Ill probably just reload and replay the battle. I don't sneak and I like having a pack mule and a living bait, not to mention if ES5 is like fallout some side quest open up and the story changes if you have a compaion

I did like the pack mule in the beginning but now it really is more of a hassle. My sneak is 100 and the perk tree is full. I can literally sneak across a crowed bar and never be seen. I can stand 2 feet from a guard holding a torch and not be seen. They can not do that. Also, once I engage the enemy they think it is time to rush in. This is not the correct answer for my character. I do not get seen... ever. I clear entire dungeons without ever being seen, including the bosses. But as soon as she rushes in, all sneak attack bonuses are lost.

As for a pack mule? No need for me. Being a thief has been good to me. I currently have over 65,000 in gold and actually gaining more than ever lately. I don't even pick up an item anymore unless it is very valuable (or mildly valuable and lightweight like jewelery and other shiny objects).

Hehe- yep, he was bad with that 50 cal. But if I really had to have a follower to help in Skyrim, I probably would have to choose Fawkes. I'd like to see him square up against the giants.

I stopped using my followers as they were more hassel than they were worth. Like em as a pack mule, and occassionally as a distraction. But mine died so often I was always reloading. I use destruction magic so if they go to a knee and I explode a fire ball next to them they are toast. I also once had one killed during a dragon battle. Went to a knee and then got hit by more dragon fire.

They just don't work well when you do AOE like I do. If I were more just direct damage I would probably still use em.

Yeah I killed Lydia yesterday when I got attacked by bandits while raiding the camp of some other bandits I had just killed. I'm running the same route as zak so I've given up on followers unless I need them for a quest or something. I like the pack mule ability but it's not worth losing the sneak bonuses.

And that's why so many companions get killed... er, die.
