Went to pick up a rental today and the video store was out so I'll wait on it. Downloading Dragonborn and I'll get my SKYRIM!!! on instead.

Got Dragonborn downloaded and just as I got to 97% complete on the downloaded the little one proceeded to scream her head off for the next hour and a half until momma got home. So, for like the first time in like 5 weeks I tuned on my box, downloaded some DLC, checked my character's equipment and status, and then powered off my box. Hopefully on like another 5 weeks I'll get to actually play some game.

I'm glad I didn't buy this and I don't think I'll even rent it. IGN and GameSpot both rated the game 4.5 and both said the graphics where horrible for the console versions, especially this late in the console life cycle. They listed one MP mode that was fun but since it came with only 2 maps (possibly more to come with DLC) that it gets old.

I'm pretty bummed since Gearbox made this but I guess they outsourced a lot of console work and the reviewers feel that because it took so long to make, Gearbox cherry-picked all the good ideas for the Borderlands franchise.

I got this from GameFly the other day, but haven't played it yet as I've only been playing Crysis 3. Anyone else given it a shot yet? I might find time this weekend to break into it.

I played through the first "chapter" I guess you could call it. The gun sound effects were so bad that I just stopped playing it and sent it back.

I think it did back in 2004 or whenever it was first announced. But like Duke Nukem, it just failed to deliver in anyway.

It's hype came mostly from the fact that it was Gearbox developing it (think Borderlands 2) and people expected so much more out of it.

Yeah but Gearbox phoned it in for the game and used most of the cool stuff they intended for this game in Borderlands 1 & 2.

I'm enjoying this so far. Not a great game by any means, but not at bad as I expected. Then again, maybe the lower than low expectations has something to do with it. The graphics are dated, and look about on par with Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 (maybe it's the same Unreal engine), and the AI is ridiculous (in a bad way). With that said, so far I like how the story is progressing and ties into the movies. Iím not a quarter of the way into the game yet, so it could just spiral downwards. Iíll let you all know more once I get through it.

The more I play this the better I wish it was. Let me clarify that a bit, Iím really liking the game, but there are so many instances where you see that glimmer of ďwhat it could beĒ. It truly could be an amazing game with the better AI, graphics, and voice acting. I would imagine anyone who had really high hopes for this, then played it for the reviews would have noticed the same and just been flat out disappointed. Thatís probably one of the big reasons for the generally poor reviews across the board. Still, Iím enjoying the game, but I can see how this could have been amazing with seemingly little work.

Supposedly Gearbox released an update/patch to fix some glitches but most of the stuff you mentioned couldn't be fixed in a patch, possibly with some DLC they could generate better story and voice acting.

The story (so far) is not the problem, and I'm likeing it quite a bit. It just looks and feels low quality and "cheap". Then again, if this came out 5 or 6 years ago and I hadn't played things like Crysis or Borderlands, it may have been amazing for the time.

Seems to be the consensus. The game had been in the works for years. Hell, the original post here was almost 2 years old.
