Just an observation

Post by PootyPoo22 on Tue Jun 07, 2011 8:14 am

After watching a few hours of E3 coverage last night, I can't help but notice that there are two things that I believe the gaming industry (especially Sony) is putting way too much focus on: 3D games and motion controlled games. I know they want to make more games more accessible to casual gamers but honestly it's getting a little ridiculous if you ask me.

It's the only way the tech is going to move forward and get decent games that use it. Personally, i'm very excited about Ryse, just hope it doesn't disappoint.

It seems like many games are forcing in some motion control. When the PS3 launched, most all games had some added gimmick to use the motion control in the PS3 controller, and in my opinion it did noting to add to the game (unless you count added frustration). If the motion control (or voice control) is done correctly, it can enhance the game making it more fun. If it is just forced in to add “better with Kinect” to the title, it is going to be weak at best.

I agree with pooty, but from the video's I saw, it looks like you can play without the kinect. ME3 voice control looked kinda cool, ghost recon, customizaion of weapons was cool, but just a gimmick and not really needed, and even if I have a kinect, I wouldn't use it for that. the ghost recon kinect shooting and reloading, looks way too slow, cumbersom, and just dumb. Ryse looked like a cool game, but with the kinect it played crappy IMO, AI just stood there until you sliced him with your fake sword. and if its like any other RPG you would be wore out after about 30 min, I mean if ya killed 15 to 20 enemys in that time frame. voice control with kinect looks cool, attacking & shooting looks hella weak. Now if they use kinect on slower rpg game that do not require a buttload of attack action then it would be cool. thinl 7th guest, Myst, or hard Rain or even a slower alan wake then I think it would be alright. thats my 2 cents

My biggest Question is why is the voice control through the kinect and not software built into the xbox. Is it going to work if you have a headset on and using kinect? Alot of it was gimmicky and not as fluent as you seem to play with a controler. It does have me a bit more intersted in buying a kinect but not totally sold.

The only time I have noticed voice recognition on my kinect is when I accidentally say connect and it pops me into the kinect.

Didn't the first Flashpoint game have voice recognition just with the regular XBox headset? I know there was a game or two that did have voice recognition, so I don't see why that would not be true on the new games and only be tethered to the Kinect.

Rainbow had it for sure, and Ghost recon I believe...just "say" a command and your team would do that command. I would tell them to stack up all the time instead of pointing to the door, then say breach and clear or frag and clear...so I know it worked well.

Again... so why the sudden fuss and excitement on it for the kinect? Seriously, not eveyone has a Kinect but everyone has an xbox mic. Will you be able to use your regular mic too?

microsoft is just going to push as much and as hard as they can with kinect and i dont think you will see any mic commands at all its either going to be kinect or controller ..

and really the only cool thing was the gunsmith

did not like how you have to have your hands to fire shoot and reload .

unless i can hold my real AK in my hand and it would read that =)

and then................BOOM GOES THE TV forgot to unload it first =)

I think for the non-Kinect specific games, you will be able to use your controller. Also, outside of Kinect specific games, I don't really use it because I can't use it with every content area. Now, when it can access all of the content areas, then I don't mind being lazy and leaving the controller on the table.

I like the Kinect specific games I have because I can play them with the whole fam and trash talk. However, I'm with most of you, I don't want a regular game adding as a gimmick.

When it comes to ME3, I can select dialog faster than I can speak it. However, giving voice commands in combat would be fast...but should I need Kinect for that feature? No.

But I see where they're headed, and it's pretty cool.
