Mint Linux?

Post by S7 K1ll3rKlown on Sun Apr 24, 2011 12:56 pm

Just installed Linux Mint on an Intel Atom enabled Netbook. Think it's pretty cool (as I've tried and used various linux versions for years). This one is by far better than a lot, including Ubuntu Linux, Fedora, Redhat, and Debian. Just wondering if anyone else has tried Mint yet, and if not you should give it a shot. Along with the obvious Open Source agreement which means it completely free and rivals Windows at every turn, it'll just make your computing life a lot easier. Posted a few screen shots to give you an idea of what it looks like. All the office stuff is there like Word, Excel, Power Point, etc. and all included for free....not $385 like "Billy Gates" likes to charge. It's Easter morning and I needed something new to do. Thought about jailbreaking my iPad and putting Linux there, but decided putting it on this cheap netbook was a better option. Very Happy
The forums look good with it too on the netbook...

Is there a pen-drive version of it?

That's the only type of Linux I ever use.

Yes, I booted my netbook off a 2GB Flash with the .iso file since it has no CD/DVD drive.

You'll enjoy it!!
here's one piece of software included I'm sure you'll enjoy...
http://www.imagemagick.org/script/index.php

Check the software manager as soon as you've installed as there are literally thousands of extra software packages you may want --all free of course. Atrum, you'll enjoy the 622+ graphics packages like the one above while both you and Epic will love the 1934+ other programming packages.

some others included:
1511 accessories (compression, backup, tracking, etc.)
540 education packs
1161 games (board games, first person shooter, RTS, turn-based, emulators, etc.)
3017 internet packages (2486 web, 454 for email, 41 for chat, 35 fileshare)
316 office programs (word, excel, power point, emac, GIMP)
940 science packages
75 sound and video players

You get the idea.
It's a massive all-in-one software package and a lot of fun.

As far as the games go, I've started playing assaultcube, rott, and Nexuiz.

Here's what Nex is like...this is the older version.

Assaultcube:

That's sweet. I mainly use linux to do my coding (usually web coding, some c++, python also) but I'm sure I'll get bored and end up playing games lol
