MacBook Noob

Post by S7 Glock on Tue Jan 25, 2011 5:07 pm

Well, I'm trying out the Union's fairly new MacBook.... I have not used a mac since high school (1993-1994).

Any help on shortcuts, apps, and other things would be greatly appreciated. I also heard that u can do 'gestures' on the touchpad for certain things...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, a lot are the same as windows, just with the CMD key instead.

Alt + The numbers will get you a variety of signals.

What Epic posted is a good tip...

Two-finger click on the track pad opens right-click menu options.

When you're in Finder you can press the space bar for a quick view of any file, and even scroll through the file (if it's multiple pages) in the quick view mode.

Learn how to use Automator, it will be a big help for stringing tasks together. For example, I've automated Aperture so that when I plug in my camera, Aperture automatically opens up to my metadata tab and creates a new folder on my external HD. Sure it's easy enough to do manually, but it's just a nice feature. I probably could expand on that small string.

There are many preset Automator actions, or you can create your own. Automator essentially records what you're doing on screen, and sets that as the automated task.

I'll add more tips as I think of them...
