The Oscars, Terrys, and Todds.... or the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Post by S7 K1ll3rKlown on Tue Jan 25, 2011 1:46 pm

Okay, so I'm checking the WSJ and ran across the fact that the Oscars nominations were announced today. The Social Network, True Grit, The Fighter, and The King’s Speech just to name a few. Well, I haven't seen any of these and don't know if they are good or not Embarassed

I have however seen a lot of good movies lately. Last night for instance I finally saw To Paris w/Love. A lot of people said it wasn't good, but never listen to critics. (loved him shooting the chick in the head, and the way she fell...LOL)

Saw Hurt Locker not too long ago and liked that. Watched Green Zone and was impressed by Matt Damon there.

What are some of the movies you've seen recently?

Like the rest of America I have ALL Showtime channels, ALL 2,000 HBO channels, Cinemax AND STILL have a subscription to NetFlix, yet don't get to see nearly as many as I'd like. Maybe someone can throw out a few here and I'll check them out via Netflix.

I saw True grit and the Fighter. Out of the two...The Fighter is the winner to me. True story about boxer 'Irish' Micky Ward and his half brother Dicky Eklund.
The funny thing is....I didn't know the movie was about Micky Ward until I was sitting in the theater...which made it even more special. Great movie and Christian Bale defiantly should get "best supporting actor"....awesome portrayal of Wards Crack addicted brother.
True Grit was good but I'm partial to the John Wayne version.
Also...on pay per view...I saw "The American" that was cool but sad.

True Grit looks awesome, but haven't seen it or those others yet.

No...Christian Bale played his brother and trainer but Mickey O'Keefe was the cop/trainer who was his real life mentor and trainer.

I watch a lot of movies...and the best I have seen lately is True Grit. The young girl in the movie was very good.

The worst movie I have seen lately is the Fockers movie. I thought it sucked.

Also some good rentals are:

The Town
Inception

Well, I watch a ton of movies. I probably average at least one a day. My wife likes horror films, so we have seen just about every scary movie out there, all the B and C grade ones too. What I have seen lately that I can remember would be:

Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader
Tron Legacy
Machete
Buried
Salt
Devil
The Other Guys
Dinner for Schmucks
Piranha
Frozen
Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
Grown Ups
The Last Exorcism
Armored

And repeat viewings of
Get Him the the Greek
the Expendables
Inglorious Bastards
Star Trek
Avatar
Rambo
the Hangover

Of course I would recommend all the movies I listed under repeat viewings. Machete was pretty cool, and Piranha was an absolute blast- crazy schlock fun. Dinner for Schmucks was pretty good too. I was also surprised how much I liked Salt. It might even be better watching it now for a second time as it has a cool Black ops vibe.

From Paris with Love was pretty good. One movie I recently watched that I would recommend, and not a lot of people have seen might be The Taking of Phelum 123 (the dialog between Denzel and Travolta makes the movie). Also I thought Armored was really good, and it's available to stream on Netflix.

I thought Wolverine was terrible, and liked the new Punisher better than the last. But the Departed and Taken were must watch movies and excellent. The Hurt Locker was good too, but not as good as Inglorious Bastards (or maybe even Avatar) in which it beat out for best picture in the Oscars. I haven't made it to the theaters since Christmas, so I haven't been able to see True Grit or the Fighter yet, both are high on my want list.

Worst movie of the last year I have seen- Johna Hexx. Just straight up crap. And I watch a lot of crap movies, but was the worst.
