No- Google TV is more expensive as far as I know- I think $200 for the stand alone, and $300 for the one with BluRay.

I know the goole tv has way more functionality. I don't think my dad would use all of the other cool things that come with it. That and the price I would probably not buy it for him. Roku has Netflix and other free plus premium apps, and the apple tv has netflix and a couple other free things like youtube. Apple tv will also be able to work with air play from a ipad, phone, pod . My mom has the ipad so that may be a cool function to stream photos, songs , videos from the ipad to the apple tv.

The prob with GoogleTV is that sites like ABC, CBS and Hulu have blocked theGoogleTV device from streaming video... Netflix works. It's basically a WebPC with a Chrome browser... very cool the way it will integrate with your DirecTV/Cable... My mom has one and I have got to play with it quite a bit.

To bad you didn't get playon when it was $30 for the lifetime , does everything all those others do, except access to iTunes store and surf the internet. I got it and stream all kinds if data, movies, hulu, abc, CBS ,pandora all my tunes, to my ps3, xbox, and iPhone only prob is that you have to have the host pc on, but it's pretty cool and the keep adding mor channels, some in hd. Sounds to ne you should just go with itv I saw one at Macmall for $100-$129 for 160g old version

I like my ATV, but it has it's limitations with content you don't already own, but the $99 price point is hard to look past. Google TV isn't as good as the sales push made it see it would be...you could look into Roku or Boxee...at this point it's a crap shoot. I'm waiting to see who's gonna step it up in the content game.

I think the winner(s) will be whoever can get the most and best content to the viewer. ATV needs to add Hulu and/or work out a subscription service with the networks...but then again Xbox is adding Hulu in the near future...and they already offer many options similar to ATV and then some...so get your dad an Xbox LOL...GT--Papa OC
