Opening your NAT

Post by S7 K1ll3rKlown on Sun Oct 31, 2010 6:56 pm

Here's something that we've all talked about for awhile, but no one has taken the time to post up the tutorial...so here you go:

1. Get your Xbox 360’s mac address.

1a. go to system blade
1b. go to network settings
1c. go to edit settings
1d. go to additional settings
1e. go to advanced settings
1f. write down the mac address for your Xbox (Should be located at the bottom of the screen when your on the tab that says "Alternate MAC Adress")
1g. leave your Xbox on

2. The router – add XBOX 360 to the reservation table

2a. log into your router, to do this type in your computers IP address in Internet Explorer http://192.168.1.1 (default setting) The password (if it is default settings will be Username: admin Password: admin if that does not work then try Username: admin Password: Password If you have set a previous username and password use that.
2b. On the left hand side click LAN IP Setup.
2c. Under address reservation click add
2d. Under address reservation table find your Xbox 360’s mac address and fill in the rest of the boxes with your IP adress like before.
2e. For the ip address change the last few digits to 101. For example: 192.168.0.101 (this will be you ip address for your Xbox.)
2f. Rename the device name to Xbox 360.
2g. Click add.

3. the router – port forwarding the require ports part 1

Xbox live requires 3 ports to be open. UDP 88, UDP 3074 & TCP 3074

3a. On the left hand side click services.
3b. Click add custom service.
3c. Under service definition you need to fill the boxes in as follows:

Name: XBL1
Type: UDP
Start Port: 88
Finish Port: 88
3d. Once complete click apply.
3e. Repeat steps 3b to 3d for the other 2 ports that need opening as follows:

Name: XBL2
Type: UDP
Start Port: 3074
Finish Port: 3074

Name: XBL3
Type: TCP
Start Port: 3074
Finish Port: 3074

4. The router – port forwarding the require ports part 2

4a. On the left hand side click firewall rules.
4b. Under inbound services click add.
4c. Click the drop down box at the top for service and select XBL1
4d. Enter your Xbox’s IP address in the boxes for send to lan server: 192.168.0.101
4e. Click apply
4f. Repeat steps 4b to 4e for XBL2 and XBL3

Pat your self on the back, your Xbox Live ports are now configured, grab you Xbox controller for the next part:

5. The Xbox

5a. Reboot your Xbox.
5b. go to system blade
5c. go to network settings
5d. Go to test Xbox live connection.
5e. This should now have passed all the tests and reported that you have an OPEN NAT status.

normal IP address for the router is normally
192.168.1.1

also i good fast fix is unplug your router for 30secs plug it back in and boom open nat

make sure your UPnP is set to enabled (if you have a N router make sure its Disabled as some times it weird like that)
* go to your web browser on your PC or mac type in 192.168.1.1
* password is Admin and user name leave blank (if you never changed it)
* go to Administration and toggle UPnP on and off

---type in your Xbox IP into the DMZ of your router
* go to your web browser on your PC or mac type in 192.168.1.1
* password is Admin and user name leave blank (if you never changed it)
* Go to applications and gaming click DMZ and input the IP you have put for your Xbox

Easiest way to find what your routers IP:
Start - Run - cmd
type: ipconfig /all
look for "Default Gateway"
And that is your routers IP

For Mac just open Terminal
type: netstat -p tcp
and the x.x.x.x is your ip

These are what almost everyone has:
192.168.1.1
192.168.2.1
192.168.1.254

If you cannot connect to a game or chat with someone, or if your NAT is listed as Moderate or Strict this allows you a more Open, better connection to the entirety of XBL.
Basically if you have problems joining games or chats, do this and they'll probably go away. If you don't have any problems, no reason to do it.

Does this make downloading better as well....I've been having a hard time downloading music for some reason. I have to download twice and sometimes the song will cut off early

Nope, this just has you open settings specifically for XBL. If you're using a torrent program there are ways to fix that too.

Could be that one of the guys in the clan has hijacked your Internet and is downloading too much porn. I hear that can cause problems with your downloading.

Opening your NAT type for the XBOX ONE:
(its a completely simple process)

  1. From the Network settings(from xbox setting screen) screen, select Test multiplayer connection.
  2. After the test is complete, you will need to pull and hold both triggers and both bumpers on your controller. This will display a Detailed network statistics screen.
  3. In the second column of the Detailed network statistics screen you will see a field calledDetailed NAT information. At first, you will see (…) displayed in this field while your NAT type is being retested. Just wait until there is a result, once you see NAT information displayed in this field, the test is complete.
  4. Press the B button on your controller to return to the Test multiplayer connection results.
  5. Select Continue to return to the Network settings screen and check your NAT type.
  6. On the Network settings screen, you’ll need to check to see if your NAT type is “Open”. If your NAT type is “Open”, then that should resolve your multiplayer issue. If your NAT type is “Moderate” or “Strict”, you will need to continue troubleshooting by repeating the process.

^^^From Microsoft Website^^^

This works for me every time, there was once time where instead of saying my connection is being masked by a cone something or another (which means its been changed to open), it said something else which made me moderate, so then i just repeated the process and it was on open the next time.
